Flamengo have been keen to recover from the poor start that they made at the start of the season.

The first job involved sacking managerVanderleiLuxemburgo, who has been in charge for more than 10 months. It did not take long for the club to make a change. Many were left surprised given that this season was just three games old when he was sacked. However, the worst result in recent seasons for the club came in the form of a 2-1 loss against the newly promoted Avai. This result left the club 17th in the table.

The form is astonishing considering that Flamengo have top players like Eduardo da Silva in their ranks. The Brazil born Croatian international has featured in almost every game, but he has not been able to find his scoring touch. Rather than wait for the forward to find his scoring boots, Flamengo have moved ahead and brought in Paolo Guerrero from Peru. The striker has signed a three-year contract with the club. He has been out of contract after having left Corinthians. The 31-year-old had been at the Brazilian club for three years but he has now been deemed as surplus to requirements.

Flamengo will be hoping that the new forward hits form straightaway. The upcoming Copa America will also showcase Flamengo sinceGuerrero is regarded as one of the top players for the national team. Peru are not favourites to win the title by any means, but they can at least hope for a good group stage. IfGuerrero manages to score a couple of goals, it would be great for the profile of Flamengo. As a replacement for the former coach Luxemburgo, Flamengo have brought inCristovao Borges. The former Fluminense coach has been without work for almost a year after having left the Rio de Janeiro club.
