Shakhtar Donetsk have managed to overcome the loss of Douglas Costa, who joined Bayern Munich in a multi-million pound deal, by bringing back one of their former strikers in the form of Eduardo da Silva.
The former Arsenal forward spent four remarkable years with the Ukrainian outfit after having left to the Premier league club. Even though he was just recuperating from a long-term injury, Shakhtar Donetsk had enough faith in him to sign him on this long-term deal. Eduardo did not disappoint in the Ukrainian outfit as a managed to score 24 goals in 81 appearances.
However, he recently brought his spell with European clubs to an end by returning back to his home country – Brazil – with Flamengo. Since his return, though, he has not been able to get Flamengo become successful once again. This is a sharp contrast to his time at Shakhtar Donetsk when he won the league title four times in a row. There was also the Ukrainian cup and the Ukraine super league titles to go along with this accolade. He has signed an 18 month contract with Shakhtar, who had also lost Fernando and Luiz Adriano in addition to Douglas Costa.
Eduardo da Silva claimed that it was a huge opportunity that he could not turn down.“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to return to the club that has always been in your heart.I was extremely eager to come back and now I have a feeling like a load was taken off my mind. It all played out like I dreamt,” said the striker, who is still just 32 years old. As a result, there is a lot of belief that he will be the first choice regular at Shakhtar Donetsk straightaway. Last season, the club finished in a disappointing second place behind Dynamo Kiev.
